North Carolina Tar
Heels at Rutgers Scarlett Knights
7:30 PM ET, September 11, 2008
Rutgers Stadium , Piscataway , NJ
Spread: Rutgers -4.5
Last year Rutgers was the
darling in the East and I believe they even went to a bowl
game. Senior Mike Teel has yet to throw a TD this season which
when paired with 2 INT’s makes you wonder if they are going to
rely on the ground game as they did last year with Kordell Young
taking the brunt of the carries this year. On paper, Rutgers
looks horrendous and they don’t give you alot to get excited
about, but when you consider their conference they may see
another bowl game this year. The Tar Heels football program
(I didn’t know they played anything else but basketball)
has never been that good and so when they win it is actually a
great acheivement. They don’t the toughest schedule, but throw
in Georgia Tech, Boston College, and VTech and its a safe bet
that they don’t aim that high. Sophomore QB T.J. Yates will be
leading the Tar Heels this year and already had a decent outing
last week against McNeese State with 2 TD’s and 1 INT, but he
really doesn’t have much to work with and its not his fault.
Despite my contempt for everything from Jersey I gotta take the
Scarlet Knights who have enough talent from lst year to get the
job done on their home field. Rutgers -4.5 is the play.
(#3)Oklahoma
Sooners at Washington Huskies
7:45 PM ET, September 13, 2008
Husky Stadium , Seattle , WA
Spread: Oklahoma -20.5
This is going to be ugly! On
paper their stats are literally night and day in difference.
The Huskies have not had a decent team in a couple years and
Oklahoma is making a run for the Championship this year. You
know there is trouble with an offense when the quarterback has
more rushing yards than the starting RB, and Chris Polk is not
helping his team with 20 carries and only 33 yards. It seems
like sophomore WR D’Andre Goodwin is the only friend Locker has
on the field and with the pocket collapsing constantly around
him he has no choice but to run. That logic is not going to fly
against the top rated Sooner’s defense and it looks like Locker
will be in for a long night. Sam Bradford will continue his
role this year as a stud QB and his stock is rising with the NFL
scouts. In the first 2 games of the season he has
already thrown 7 TD’s and 578 yards with only 2 INT’s. The air
game is not the only weapon they have as DeMarco Murray and
Chris Brown are always potent on the ground and easily shake
opposing defenses when in the red zone. I can easily see why
the spread is so high and at under 3 TD’s it makes Oklahoma very
enticing. The educated bettor will take Oklahoma, but I am
having a flashback of the Huskies versus #1 ranked USC last year
and the spectacular comeback Locker staged, just coming up
short. I like the Huskies at home, but wait until around Friday
when the line moves up to +21. Go DAWGS!!!
